Teacher Effectiveness
Teacher Effectiveness" course # CIC-587F This is a three semester hour graduate course. In this course teachers will learn and practice the principles of effective communication and problem solving skills essential to creating self-motivated, self-disciplined students within a climate of caring and cooperation. The course will also assist teachers in promoting a "Win-Win" approach to teamwork and collaboration while working with students, coworkers, parents and community organizations. The course will show how to encourage student empathy, compassion and cooperation. The development of empathy and compassion are essential to the development of a safe environment. This course offers essential skills and understandings that:
• Model non-violent ways to resolve conflicts
• Develop good teacher/student relationships in the classroom
• Assist urban teachers to be successful (as per current research)
• Show teachers how to break the endless "Reward & Punishment" cycle
• Teach social & conflict resolution skills that encourage responsible students
• Provide teachers with effective "conflict resolution" skills
• Model the social skills necessary to use Cooperative Learning
• Improve teamwork with colleagues, administrators, family and friends
• Present the basic tools for Quality School and Site Based Management efforts
• Show how to stop the cycle of failure and poverty
